Artistic and Cultural Bergen
Walking down our street, you’re already in the center of Bergen. Its unique location between forest and dune has always provided Bergen a famous appeal. Not only vacationers found their peace here; artists too have traditionally been fascinated by this intimate dune village.
Today still, Bergen attracts many art lovers and practitioners. On Thursday nights in the summer, they sell their work on the artistic market around the Ruïne church. And in October, all Bergen residents open their doors to show their art during the famous Kunsttiendaagse (Ten Days of Art).
Active and natural Bergen
Above all, Bergen is famous for its beautiful surroundings. Only a short trip of 15 will take you to the beach of Bergen aan Zee. The bordering nature areas are a delight for lovers of hiking and biking. Real adventurers can enjoy themselves in Bergen, with mountain biking in the dunes or kite surfing at the beach.
Lovers of nature will enjoy the beautiful sight of the nearby bulb fields in spring. The numerous hyacinths, tulips and crocuses that bloom there can be admired with an easy car ride.
Bergen is a vibrant town. Gourmets will love the highly regarded restaurants of the village, with food from all regions and suitable for all budgets: in the culinary field, you will never get bored in Bergen. The village offesr a wide variety of beautiful shops
During summer months, there’s something going on in the village almost every day. Like ‘Lichtjesavond’ (Night of the Light) in August, when residents of Bergen decorate their garden with candles and the village gets an enchanted glow. Or during Jazz&Sail in September, a three day festival with a sea regatta at daytime and a jazz festival in the town at night.
Bergen and beyond: from Alkmaar to Amsterdam
Bored of Bergen? No problem, because a daytrip is easy to make. Eight kilometers away is the “cheese” town of Alkmaar, well-known for its weekly cheese market on Fridays during summer months. When visiting Enkhuizen one can experience the life in a historic Dutch fishermen’s town. At the Zuiderzeemuseum there, a historical fisherman’s village, consisting of antique buildings such as a smoke-house, dwellings and shops, can be visited.
Amsterdam is easy to reach. From Alkmaar, every fifteen minutes a train departs which takes you in only forty minutes to Amsterdam Central Station.
